The Alberta Quarter Horse Racing Association promotes Quarter Horse Racing through the encouragement of breeding and ownership, as well as track development. Inaugurated in 1968, Quarter Horses have been competing in Alberta since 1957, beginning at the Millarville racetrack.
Governed by Horse Racing Alberta, the AQHRA membership has increased by 57% in the past four years, a number which is on the increase due to purse enhancements and improved racing environments in Alberta.
AQHRA 2012 UPDATE AND REMINDERS
2012 RMTC Race Meet will start on May 5 to June 30, July 1 in Millarville. Evergreen Park will start on July 6 to August 26 and then back to RMTC from September 1 to October 21.
The All Canadian Open Spring Futurity has been cancelled and in place of it there will be an All Canadian Open Overnight Handicap for 2 year old Quarter Horses. There will be a decrease in the purse with a $100 time of entry. The race track will draw out if the race overfills. Proposed date will be Saturday, June 16.
The Alberta Bred Derby will run in Edmonton at Northlands Park for the 2012 race season The proposed date:
Trials - Wednesday, July 11
Finals - Wednesday, July 25
Distance - 330 yds
Estimated Added Purse - $25,000
2012 AQHRA Proposed Stake Race Schedule
The 2012 Annual AQHRA Yearling Sale and Stallion Service Auction has also been changed slightly for 2012. The date of the Sale will now be on Saturday, September 29, 2012 and it will now be called the AQHRA 17th Annual Quarter Horse Yearling and Mixed Sale.
REMINDERS
For those who wish to nominate their Stallion into the 2012 Alberta Stallion Stales Program the annual fee of $200 per stallion is now due. It is highly recommended that this fee is paid in full now so that AQHRA can advertise in various publication to promote your stallion to interested breeders.
The first payment for the 2012 Canada Quarter Horse Cup Futurity is due Febrary 1st.
