Alberta
Bred Accreditation
The AQHRA, in cooperation with Horse Racing Alberta,
has initiated an accreditation program in order to determine
and confirm, a horse's eligibility to participate in Alberta
Bred races and incentive programs.
The main objective of this program is to protect
the interests of all Albertans and to ensure that horses are
truly foaled in Alberta before they are considered
eligible.
If Owners/Breeders would like to have their horse(s)
eligibility confirmed, please complete an AQHRA
Alberta Bred Declaration Form and return it to our
office. A Committee will review the forms and you will be
notified of the outcome. Horses that are determined to be
"AQHRA Accredited Alberta Breds" will be
identified as such on registration papers, in sale catalogues
and in race programs.
Please be advised that until further notice,
the AQHRA will require accreditation to participate in our
Alberta Bred race/bonus programs for foals born in 2002 and
later.
In order to assist with the accreditation of
your 2004 foals, some blank Alberta Bred Declaration Forms
are enclosed. Please keep them handy at foaling time in order
to get an independent third party witness (i.e. not relatives,
etc.) to verify that they saw the foal shortly after birth.
Please remember that documentation such as copies
of invoices for board or foaling services, hauling manifests,
import papers, or veterinarian's statements/invoices will
help to substantiate that your foal was actually born in Alberta
(and may be required in some cases to obtain accreditation).
For 2005 and later, all out-of-province owners/breeders
must have a Veterinarian's signature to verify their that
the horse was born in Alberta.
